ColorAndTalea’s unique style of experimental/breakbeat/jazz improvisation has been called “one of the most frenetic live acts in Boston,” and for good reason. Although their shows are highly spontaneous, and rooted in free improv, the energy level of the players rivals that of a punk band, rather than that of a jazz trio. The sparse instrumentation (only saxophone, bass, and drums) is complemented by a barrage of electronic gadgets, a laptop computer, beatboxing, screaming, and the occasional display of manic acrobatics. They are clearly not your average jazz trio.
