The roots of Italian Folk Music

As everybody knows Italy has a very old and
prestigious classical tradition. How many people are
familiar with the Folk songs played by the farmers in
the Neapolitans suburbs while Giacomo Puccini or
Giuseppe Verdi were performing their operas for the
Italian high society? How many people have heard
traditional instruments such as Tamorra or Putipu?

Newpoli is an Italian Folk Group with two
percussionists, two guitars and three singers, all
swathed in rich colors of the past, whose purpose is
to rediscover all the wonderfully “uneducated” music
played on the rhythms of Tammurriata, Tarantella or
Pizzica.
