The Dan Tepfer Trio
modern jazz piano trio

Dan Tepfer - piano
Jorge Roeder - double bass
Richie Barshay - drums

In the last two months, the Dan Tepfer Trio has travelled as far as Japan and the West Coast to spread the good word about their brand-new CD, Before the Storm. And even the Japanese loved it! A regular presence at the Zeitgeist, the trio is back for a special Sunday matinee show. Their last gig at the Zeitgeist was a Boston Globe “Jazz Pick”, and Dan was called “one of tomorrow’s jazz stars” by the Oregonian. In past concerts at the Zeitgeist, the Dan Tepfer Trio has revealed a rare mix of exuberance and introspection that even within complex rhythmic and harmonic explorations, is always deeply musical.

Dan Tepfer (piano) is a masters student at the New England Conservatory, where he studies with Danilo Pérez and Bob Brookmeyer. He grew up studying classical piano and playing jazz in Paris, France. Most recently he has played with Chris Potter and Christian McBride.

« Dan Tepfer is a very impressive young pianist and composer. He plays fearlessly, intensely and with great sensitivity.» — FRED HERSCH

Jorge Roeder (double bass) was born in Lima, Peru. Also a student at NEC, he has studied with Cecil McBee, John Lockwood, and Oscar Stagnaro and played with Alex Acuna, Kenny Wheeler, and Bill Watrous.

Richie Barshay (drums) performs regularly with Herbie Hancock, George Garzone, Jane Bunnett, and numerous other freelance projects. Currently based in Boston, he is completing a bachelor’s degree at NEC.
