Boston-based pianist/composer Marc Rossi’s long-standing progressive jazz ensemble performs his accessible yet sophisticated compositions, which blend strong melodies with worldly elements such as exotic time signatures, Indian modes and ragas, and Afro-Latin rhythms. His eclectic approach to writing music stems from a diverse background that includes not only extensive work as a jazz performer, but also as a contemporary classical composer and longtime student of both Hindustani and Carnatic Indian music.

Called “one of the dynamic few whose musical and cultural awareness travels exponentially in many different directions,” by DownBeat magazine, Rossi has been an integral part of the Boston music scene as both performer and educator for more than two decades. His long career includes extended associations with groups like Stan Strickland and Ascension, the Jimmy Guiffre 4, and George Russell’s Grammy®-nominated Living Time Orchestra. Along with the Marc Rossi Group, which he has led since 1981, his own projects have included innovative duos with sitarist Peter Row and pianist/composer Ben Schwendener, as well as premieres of his classical works in legendary venues like Symphony Hall and Dvorak Hall in Prague. “Rossi has never been someone of one-dimensional interests. The list of both jazz and classical compositions he has written is long and impressive.”—David Wildman, Boston Globe
