Back from an acclaimed European tour, the Dan Tepfer Trio returns to the Zeitgeist to introduce new arrangements of the music of Steve Lacy. The experience of working closely with Lacy and his wife, vocalist Irene Aebi, is what compelled Tepfer to look for ways to adapt Lacy’s music to the trio’s esthetic. “The challenge is to stay true to Steve’s original intent while making the music our own”, he says. In past concerts at the Zeitgeist, the Dan Tepfer Trio has revealed a rare mix of exuberance and introspection that even within complex rhythmic and harmonic explorations, is always deeply musical.
