Joe Della Penna’s musical direction combines Jazz with his interests in Musical Theatre, Blues, and the Avant-Garde. This is the debut gig at the Zeitgeist Gallery for the Joe Della Penna Trio. Joe Della Penna has played classical, jazz, and pop piano for over twenty eight years. This New Jersey native earned his
Bachelors Degree in music cum laude from The Hartt School of Music in 1991 where he studied and performed with Jackie McLean and Jaki Byard. He came to Boston in 1993 to attend the New England Conservatory of Music where he received his Masters Degree, studying voice with Dominique Eade and piano with
Paul Bley and Ran Blake. Greg Loughman – bass He has performed with
musicians including Curtis Fuller, JoAnne Brackeen, Kenwood Dennard, Greg
Abate, Ray Santisi, Mark Greel, Rusty Scott, Al Vega, Grammy-nominated
pianist Phillip Aaberg, guitarist Mimi Fox, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist
Carlos Malta, jazz violinist Christian Howes, singer Patti Page, actor/singer James Naughton, and the Jimmy Dorsey Big Band, among many others. Brooke Sofferman – drums His work with such artists as John Abercrombie,
George Russell, Clark Terry, Cecil McBee, John McNeil, George Garzone, Danilo Perez, Bob Moses and many others have contributed to his development
as a drummer and composer. Along with dozens of recordings as a sideman,
Brooke has released three CD’s as a leader on the Arizona jazz label, Summit
Records. (www.summitrecords.com) These recordings feature all original compositions of Brooke’s and feature world renowned saxophonist, Jerry Bergonzi and trumpeter Phil Grenadier.
