13 DAYS OF CREATIVE DISSENT

Events held July 17-29

Days of Creative Dissent” is for the outraged and for those who want or need to be. People have already come together to express their dismay over war, its disregard for international law, and its disrespect for human life. The intense feelings behind “13 Days of Creative Dissent” cannot be contained by the four walls of any gallery. So, it’s spilling into the streets! People marching, postering, playing music in the streets. Art brought to the people, rather than the other way around. With current political leaders aiming to flout the Geneva Convention, jettison civil liberties, start wars with questionable justifications - it is incumbent upon every artist to trigger the calls needed for a return to compassion, sanity, respect for all people, and international behavior governed by just laws.

Join us!

The YO! WHAT HAPPENED TO PEACE? national touring exhibit, on display in July in many local establishments (see information below), serves as the backbone for thirteen days of concentrated artistic activism on the local level. “13 Days of Creative Dissent” is a vehicle for expressing disgruntlement using creative tools. Specific events that are all tied into the “13 Days of Creative Dissent” are as follows:

a.. “War is…” at First Church - July 17, 7:00-9:30 pm:

opening reception at the First Church, 11 Garden Street, Cambridge. Sponsored by the Zeitgeist Gallery, this art exhibit of paintings and sculpture presents perspectives on the causes and impact of war from a diverse group of Boston artists, including Donald Shambroom, Franceska Schifrin, Chris Shaw, Nolan Bowie and others. The evening will also include special appearances by anti-war activists, performers and journalists. After the reception, a parade will then lead the party participants over to the Zeitgeist Gallery.
