“Lowdown Highway: The Transportation Anthology,”
is the debut publication by Junkyard Books, a
queer, woman-owned publishing company from San
Francisco, in association with the late, great,
Bearded Lady Cafe. The authors of Lowdown Highway
present an evening of spoken word, images and
music. on the romantic myth of the American road.
Featuring:
Cooper Lee Bombardier- transgender visual artist,
writer, actor, and construction worker. Host of
the Santa Fe queer performance cabaret LISP and a
veteran of the legendary Sister Spit tours. (He’s
the really hot guy on the cover of The Drag King
Book).
Len Plass- writer, spoken word performer, and co-
founder of San Francisco’s Junkyard Books, an
independent press dedicated to publishing outsider
queer writing. Len writes ragged, self- loathing
tales about every tired, worn-out kind of
heartbreak. She has no formal training as a writer
and holds true to that standard.
Sara Seinberg- Boston’s own endless
procrastinator. she gets sucked into tetris,
crossword puzzles, and professional football with
such dazzling focus, it’s hard to imagine that she
has ever written anything at all. but she has. she
writes things and photographs things and has a
pretty good record in the kitchen. her work is
informed by identity fracturing, mythologizing the
memory, and painter envy. seinberg is a leo with a
taurus dog and a wicked bad sense of her own
volume. she is a jewess and NOT a zionist.
