DON PRESTON

Don played piano on Nat King Cole’s 1958 Canadian tour. In 1967 he played on the Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa classic “We’re Only In It For The Money”. He’s a living legend in the realm of synthesizer pioneers, building synths from scratch before most people had even heard of one. He shocked his Good friend Robert Moog with the sounds he made on Moog’s own instruments. Collaborating and playing piano for Meredith Monk, he was a part of the early 70s NY avant garde/modern dance music/composers nexus. Earlier, Don had performed with Carla & Paul Bley, Elvin Jones, Herbie Mann and Yusef Lateef. With a diverse discography of jazz and electronic releases, soundtracks and guest performances under his belt, he¹s one of those
musicians that every eclectic record collection contains but the owner doesn¹t know it! Now working with the new MOOG - Voyager Analog synth, as well as modern samplers and computers, Don continues to push the edge. See this 71 - year old musical dynamo at ZEITGEIST GALLERY 7pm THU APRIL 8 !

BTW: Don’s Jazz Trio CD “Transformation” was a Top Five Jazz Pick for NPR.
Rave reviews in the international press included Four Stars in DOWNBEAT magazine.

His recent electronic CD “The Inner Realities Of Evolution” was recently highlighted in SIGNAL to NOISE magazine.
