Affable piano maestro David Maxwell sheds his “blues legend” identity as he and his cohorts stretch out in an hour and a half freewheeling journey, dealing with sound in terms of shapes and colors (think painting, sculpture, architecture). Sometimes the references are specific (Indian and Middle Eastern sounding influences, jazz underpinnings and a touch of the blues), other times more abstract; always ready to mix, morph and turn on a dime, weaving an engrossing tapestry of musical ideas. Sometimes meditative, sometimes playful, cathartic, transformative, trance-inducing, cosmic, spiritual, whatever——-it’s all about the healing potential of sound. Come and get your molecules rearranged.
