JONATHAN LORENTZ QUARTET
NYC saxophonist Jonathan Lorentz plays constantly. Touring from Maine to Virginia, Lorentz is also a composer, arranger and recovering scholar. His sound on tenor is warm and broad and echoes influences of Coltrane, Shorter and mentor George Garzone. Jonathan is currently touring to promote his recent CD “One Night in Brooklyn.”

The Jonathan Lorentz Quartet on tour:

Sax-man Lorentz is a Vermont native, now living in New
York City where he plays with the best and hottest.
His sound on tenor is warm and broad and echoes
influences of Coltrane, Shorter, and mentor George
Garzone. Lorentz plays constantly, touring from Maine
to Virginia, and is also a composer, arranger, and
scholar. The concerts will include jazz standards and
selections from his recent album, “One Night in
Brooklyn.”

The shows will feature Jared Steer, a percussionist
from New Hampshire who’s crushing attack is akin to
Elvin Jones and Art Blakey. His more subtle playing is
much like newbies Brian Blade and Billy Martin. It’s
no wonder that his instructors have been top regional
performers: Bob Moses, Bob Gulatti, and Tim Gilmore.

Look for Joe Deleault, another New Hampshire
phenomenon with a promissing future. On the piano, Joe
has McCoy Tyner’s left-hand comping with a Keith
Jarrett lyrical line. His keyboard and rhodes playing
are very much in the vein of Herbie Hancock and John
Medeski.

On a few engagements, NYC Vocalist Heather Davis will
be performing with the quartet. Heather’s voice is
soft and honey-coated with a hint of breathy clarity.
Her influences range from Roberta Flack and Ella
Fitzgerald to Chante Moore. Her vast performance
experience includes opera, musical theatre as well as
club and concert dates in the north east. We recently
toured NE with Gabe Jarrett and Noah Jarrett and she
was a smash success.

Check out the latest edition to the band, bassist
James MacDonald. He is a first-call bassist for the
Southern Vermont tri-state area. A seasoned player who
has toured around the world on Carnival and Royal
Caribbean Cruise Lines, MacDonald performs regularly
with Draa Hobbs and Eugene Uman. He is the house
bassist for the Vermont Jazz Center and has performed
with the Vermont Jazz Ensemble, Sheila Jordan, Dave
Stryker, Jay Clayton and many others.
