“the critique of pure reason” with:
Mark Geary, Joe Whyte, Kevin O’Rourke
Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1973, Mark Geary is one of eight brothers and sisters raised during a time of extreme political and social upheaval, part of the reason there was a mass exodus of young Irishmen in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Geary, if fact, was one of those emigrants; he arrived in New York in 1992 at
the ripe age of 19, and gradually established himself as one of New York’s most popular singer/songwriters, with the local press christening Geary the next in a line of honest and personal songwriters who have made a mark on the music industry, including Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith. Geary released his eponymous debut recording on Paradigm Records at the outset of 1999. His follow-up, 33 1/3 Grand Street, appeared in 2002. (allmusic guide) An engaging performer and wonderful storyteller, Geary’s music is hopeful yet melancholy. He now divides his time between New York and Ireland, where he has toured with Josh Ritter, and played shows with both Glen Hansard and the Frames.
The first thing you’ll notice about Joe Whyte is his unprecedented vocal range. Nominated for Best Male Solo Performer at the Asbury Music Awards in 2000, 2001 and 2002, Joe’s voice has been called both “ethereal” and “haunting.” Inspired by influential songwriters such as Neil Finn, Aimee Mann and Elvis
Costello, his songs are riddled with textured melodies and lyrics delivered with a punch. In 2002, Joe simultaneously released a solo acoustic album titled “Acoustically Yours,” and a full-band EP titled “Four and No More.” In early 2003, Joe had the privilege of recording and mixing a brand-new single in the legendary Hit Factory in NYC, which continues to host only the top names in the music industry. Joe is continuing to write and preparing to record his next full-length record by the end of 2003.
Northampton’s own Kevin O’Rourke is the frontman of the immensely talented band Lo Fine. O’Rourke’s brilliant lyrics and heartbreakingly beautiful voice never fail to win the attention of anyone lucky enough to see him perform.
