This Portland, Maine quintet has been politely playing shows for a few years, unobtrusively working itself into the minds of dozens upon dozens of barflies, affecting a lack of ambition and self-confidence. And then one day they released a double-LP on 180-gram vinyl in a beautifully illustrated gatefold sleeve. If there was any question whether there was real ambition under all those shoegazer stares and sheepish grins, the album, “ShiShiMuMu,” should settle it. The record raises the bar in Portland (if not everywhere!) for packaging, recording quality, and songwriting.
