STUDIO Z: 1ST Thursdays @ Zeitgeist
presents
Dan O’Kane
curated by Robert Moeller
Dan O’Kane’s painterly abstractions reflect the stark beauty, big skies and endless horizons of the Great Plains. A minimalist by nature, this native Nebraskan attempts to examine the way in which we see and store in our memory the basic elements of this extreme landscape.
Maps, satellite photos and contour drawings aid in the formation of many of Mr. O’Kane’s works. In a series entitled “Prairie Haikus” he attempts to reduce the traditional landscape to just three ambiguous elements, while some of his larger pieces take a sometimes playful occasionally ominous look at how architectural elements interact with our perception of nature.

Studio Z - a curated art event - is an opportunity for 5-7 artists to show and sell their work for one evening, the first Thursday of each month, from 7-11 pm. Studio Z is also an opportunity for the public to see, talk about, and purchase fine art immediately and informally, sometimes directly from the artist. A salon atmosphere will prevail, with lively discussion. Temporary exhibit walls will be brought in to display the work. The art will be both inexpensive and of fine quality. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
