One of the premier electroacoustic ensembles in Boston and the world, the
BSC is happily kicking ass at the Zeitgeist on the third Sunday of each
month through August 2003. This is a big monster to lug around so don’t be
so foolish as to miss these well-organized adventures into the beautifully
meditative horror of BSC land.

the bsc:
greg kelley - trumpet
james coleman - theremin
liz tonne - voice
mike bullock - dbl. bass
chris cooper - prepared gtr. and electronics
vic rawlings - cello and electronics
howard stelzer - tapes
bhob rainey - s. sax, director

The BSC was formed in 2000 by Bhob Rainey. The musicians represent the best
of Boston’s electroacoustic improvisers, but the group is much more than an
all-star ensemble. Through unique rehearsal methods, Rainey brings focus
and compositional attention to the group’s improvisations, while allowing
each musician to have her/his own voice. There is no score or live
direction; instead, the group relies on a subtle understanding of its own
inner workings, combining consciousness of craft (many of these musicians
were working together long before this ensemble was formed) with a penchant
for pulling off risks. The result is richly textured, often transparent,
pregnant with surprise, and unafraid of extremes
