“Their interaction is so sensitive, their designs so profoundly complex, the “completeness” of their extemporaneity was a bit humbling.
“In fact, one of the things that struck me most about the Lantner Trio is that, while no one would mistake them for being a straight-ahead jazz unit, they really seem to swing a good portion of the time. This dichotomy between swing’s rhythmic vitality and the post-tonality of their harmonic language is a an attractive one. Much like Morris-Parker-Drake’s recent Riti release,
[Lantner’ Trio] tempts your toes into tapping and your spirit into dancing, all the while creating labyrinthine structures of considerable density.”

Judith Berkson, Jacob Garchik and Dan Weiss have appeared together over the past year and a half in New York and are happy to have a chance to come to Boston to perform at Zeitgeist Gallery. The group has been improvising on the music of composers such as Webern, Mahler, Maneri and Monk as well as their own original material. Drummer Dan Weiss has been collaborating with Eivind Opsvik, Steve Swallow, Joel Harrison and Dave Binney and has been touring with The Jazz Mandolin Project. Trombonist Jacob Garchik has most recently appeared with the Lee Konitz Nonet at The Montreal Jazz Festival. Vocalist/pianist Judith Berkson recently sang on Steve Coleman’s latest recording project and is the featured vocalist in his sound installation currently running at Engine 27 in Tribeca.
