FROM THE BELLY OF THE BEASTS –
TOO MUCH WHISKEY; & WAY TOO MUCH CAFFEINE:
A Boston/New York showcase featuring Shaun Wolf Wortis,
Bourbon Princess, Lach and Testosterone Kills. On Friday, June 20,
the Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge puts on an eclectic and truly
alternative bill of quirky performers from Boston and New York. From
Boston, there’s the dark swamp whiskey grooves of both Shaun Wolf
Wortis and Monique Ortiz’ Bourbon Princess, and from New York City,
two overly-stimulated mainstays of the Lower East Side “antifolk”
scene, Lach, and “Elektrofolk” duo Testosterone Kills.
Shaun Wolf Wortis, former Slide frontman and shaman leader of the
infamous Mardi Gras Balls lays down loose, staggering, soul-rock with
“finely crafted tunes” (Billboard). “Wortis teeters, at times, on the
brink of the void”. -The Tab
Bourbon Princess: Monique Ortiz leads her unusual group through a
dark, smoky, post-punk soundtrack set to her beat poetry.
Lach: Legendary “antifolk” ringleader from New York. Irreverent
beyond belief and brilliant to boot. “Lach is a star! More Woody
Allen than Woody Guthrie and a raised middle finger to the folk
purists.” (New Musical Express); “Like black snow, stalled subway
cars and random violence, Lach is a Manhattan institution.” (NY Times)
Testosterone Kills: Queens NY based “way gay” acoustic duo has gained
a following in Manhattan coffeehouses blending antifolk themes with a
bit of odd-ball electronic … This “antifolk” group ain’t exactly
Simon and Garfunkel … “Smart, hip, incredibly hummable.” (Out
Magazine).
