Vocalist Sofia Koutsovitis grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated from the National Conservatory of Music where she studied Classical Voice. As a member of the National Youth Choir, she toured Latin America, North America and Europe several times, performing Renaissance, Romantic and Contemporary music. She has been part of several Jazz, Brazilian and Argentine folklore music groups, performing with them in concert halls and clubs in Buenos Aires and Boston. She is currently finishing her Master’s Degree in Jazz voice at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, studying with Danilo Perez, Charlie Banacos and Dominique Eade.
Sofia Koutsovitis Quintet features Josh Economy on trumpet, Jed Wilson on piano, Peter Bitenc on bass and Jason Nazary on drums. The band repertoire includes original compositions by the band members as well as new arrangements of Brazilian and Argentine music by the great composers Astor Piazzolla, Egberto Gismonti and Djavan.
