The Braida-Locatelli duo was formed in 1996 and focuses both on
improvisation and its relationship with composition. In 1999, after about
three years during which the duo worked on developing a process of
“subtraction” of musical materials, they issued a CD of completely
improvised pieces entitled diciannove calefazioni (takla record 2).

In 2001, the duo made an appearance at the Total Music Meeting festival in
Berlin. The material recorded during these concerts is avalable on the FMP
CD Audiology - 11 Groups Live in Berlin. At present the duo, apart from
further research and development of the concept of improvisation, is working
on a project on the compositions of Eric Dolphy.

Gordon Beeferman - piano
Katt Hernandez - violin
Jeff Arnal - percussion

Expressive and virtuosic, the music of composer-performers Arnal and
Beeferman springs from avant-garde traditions. Their work is a synthesis of
the highly defined compositional elements of contemporary classical music
and the spontaneity and energy of free-improvisation. In 2001, the duet
released a critically acclaimed CD, Bodies of Water on Generate Records.
Tonight they will be joined by Boston violinist Katt Hernandez.

“near-perfect synchronicity…” -Steven Loewy, All Music Guide

“Arnal and Beeferman may view the world through heavily tinted glasses, but
they do produce music with muscle and appeal.” - Frank Rubolino, Cadence
