ZAMPANO’S PLAYHOUSE
vintage tv & film in blazing 16mm
Fleischer Bros. Bonanza!

Production: Albert Steg - asteg@mindspring.com
R. Crumb enthusiasts visiting the Zeitgeist this month have an opportunity
tonight to trace his comix art styling back to the surreal, jazz-induced
1930’s animations of Max and Dave Fleischer. The lecherous “Old Man of the
Mountain,” the puppy-faced party guests at the “Mask-a-Raid” and of course
the unforgettable, rotoscoped Cab Calloway ghost-dancing his way through
“St. James Infirmiry” will all be strikingly recognizable as inspirations
for Crumb’s figures. Betty Boop is the featured starlet of the evening (in
all her sexy pre-Hayes Code glory) but we’ll also see a few other gems
including one or two early Popeye toons. As ever, all films are brought to
you in the magical medium of vintage 16mm film.
