,composer and founder of BIRTH RECORDS, is a major instigator of Germany’s
free-jazz-movement, and whose American collaborators have included his wife
Jeanne Lee, Don Cherry, Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton, Marion
Brown, Perry Robinson and many others. His Trio mixes high energy

A modern master of the clarinet for over four decades, Perry Robinson began
recording and touring with Gunter Hampel since the early 1970’s, as Duo,Trio
(with Jeanne Lee) and the famous GALAXIE DREAM BAND in Europe and the USA,
he can be heard on 21 LPs/CDs with Gunter (Birth Records) Perry has also
worked with Dave Brubeck, John Carter, Tete Montoliu, Charlie Haden, Carla
Bley, Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon, Burton Greene, George Clinton, Mark
Whitecage, and his father, the late composer EarlRobinson. His own Quartet
has just finished their fourth CD, StillTraveling (West Wind), and he has
also recorded several times with Lou Grassi’s PoBand. Perry’s autobiography,
Still Traveling, co-authored with Florence Wetzel, was published in the
spring of 2002 by iUniverse.

Lou Grassi, a New York resident of long standing, has literally played from
Rag-Time to No-Time, plays with Gunter Hampel’s Free Will Quintet—including
Wilber Morris, Ed Schuller, Clemens Orth, Dmitry Baevski since 2000…he
toured with ragtime pianist Max Morath and has worked with a host of the
jazz avant-garde’s finest including Marshall Allen, Borah Bergman, Rob
Brown, Roy Campbell, Charles Gayle, Gunter Hampel, Phillip Johnston, Sheila
Jordan, Perry Robinson , Mark Whitecage among others. He has recently been
heard with Roswell Rudd’s Broad Strokes band and with his highly acclaimed
Lou Grassi Po Band which frequently includes guests such as, Marshall Allen,
Burton Greene Joseph Jarman and John Tchicai.
