A night of visual and sonic delights built around the photography of East
Boston-based photographer Laurie Hoffma is scheduled for Zeitgeist Gallery
in Cambridge on Friday, January 17. The unique program “American
Soundscapes” is a collaboration between Ms. Hoffma and the Boston-based band
Devil Gods that showcases her photos of people and places across the United
States.
For the past 10 years, Ms. Hoffma has taken photos of nature and life in
some of America’s most striking locations: the Pacific Northwest, the
Mississippi Delta, the canyons of the Southwest, right here in New England’s
urban center. Her photos have appeared in national and regional
publications. Currently her work is featured in the exhibit “Restroom:
Privacy and Consciousness” in the Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the
Arts and she will also be in the upcoming “Small, Smaller, Smallest” show at
the Bromfield Art Gallery in Boston’s SoWa arts district. She has also
participated in the East Boston Open Studios for the past two years and is a
member of the East Boston Artists Group.
Joining Ms. Hoffma at Zeitgeist will be Boston’s Devil Gods, providing a
soundtrack of arranged and improvised music as more than 70 of her photos
are projected. The Devil Gods, a four-piece band specializing in psychedelic
rock, blues and textural music, have toured the Northeast extensively this
year in support of their debut CD Sick Little Monkey (triPup Records) and
backing poet/activist John Sinclair, including a fall appearance at Boston’s
Hatch Shell.
