Eight years ago, Ian MacKinnon had a vision: He would produce the national
creation story. This country has always been about the future; thatıs one
reason why itıs so great, and itıs one reason why we have no handy story of
how it all began (with fundamentalists, ecocide,
race war, globalization, free-trade zones, militias, infomercials, and
plenty of booze). But this isnıt a tragedy. Tragedy means thereıs no way
out. Itıs a serious comedy that hints at change. With music, masks, and
dance, Artezani Theater breaks through the national amnesia held in place by
Disney, Plymouth Plantation, the Salem Witch Museum, and Thanksgiving
pageants. Theyıre the golden oldies; “The Awannoa Show” says that the oldies
can be made new again.

*The Dec. 27 show will be followed by a party to celebrate director Ian
MacKinnonıs 40th birthday and the 10th anniversary of Artezani Theater.
Featured: “The Greatest Moments of Artezani on Video” and P.R.O.T.O.N.
(Peopleıs Republic Open Temple of News), a popular-music combo mixing
journalism, gospel, trance, and politics.
